Wells-next-the-Sea

An award-winning beach set in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The sweeping sandy beach is bordered by woodland and forms part of the Holkham Estate. It’s also home to Wells picturesque Quay filled with fish and chip shops, ice cream shops, cafes and pubs.

The Beach

An award-winning beach set in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The sweeping sandy beach is bordered by woodland and forms part of the Holkham Estate. Walk along 1.5 miles of golden sands and you will reach Holkham. When the tide is in the East part of the beach can become cut off, which happens very quickly, listen out of the siren when the tide is coming in.

There are RNLI Lifeguards on the beach from July to September 10am to 6pm daily. No barbecues are allowed on either Holkham or Wells beach.

The Quay

Wells picturesque Quay is home to many fantastic cafes, restaurants and pubs and a host of independent stores. In the 19th Century the towns main industry was malting, its history can still be seen today in the distinctive granary building at the harbour. Built in 1903 it’s a large and impressive building with overhanging gantry, now an iconic symbol at the Quay.

Wells Carnival

If you’re visiting Wells in August you may be lucky enough to catch carnival week! It’s a week of family fun events including a carnival procession with floats and fancy dress. Featuring a sand castle building competition, town crier competition, live music, BBQ’s and various workshops, its great fun for all.
